The simple fact is that the United States spends more on defense than the next 17 countries combined, and many of those countries are our allies. Many politicians love to raise the specter of China, but in real terms they only spend 17% of what we do. Under the sequestration plan that was agreed to, the United States military budget would still INCREASE from FY2012 to FY2021. Instead of increasing by 23% it would increase by 16%. In what world is an increased budget a cut? In FY2010 we spent nearly 700 Billion dollars on "defense". China, the next highest spending country, spent just over 100 billion. So I guess in simple terms, to answer your question, Yes, cut the defense budget.
