We must start dismantling the tax code. Equity of sacrifice. Some 'sacred cow' deductions may have to go too. Until that starts happening, anything else that is done or said is patronization and diversion.
As long as there are thousands upon thousands of pages of loopholes in the tax codes, the rich and powerful will always have and find ways to pay less. (Who wouldn't do the same thing?) Until the tax code becomes simpler with fewer loopholes it cannot be "fair" for anyone, let alone everyone because the code is used to define exceptions. Right now, the tax code is "fair" when it works to my (or the beaurocracy's) advantage either financially, or for winning votes.
